IRB Update Sessions -- Many changes have been made over the last year related to the policies and procedures of the Johns Hopkins Medicine institutional review boards. To help faculty and staff navigate the complex process, more sessions have been scheduled to provide general information on current human subjects research review requirements for Johns Hopkins Medicine.
These sessions will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., and on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 1 to 2 p.m., in the Asthma and Allergy Center Auditorium, on the Bayview campus. Study coordinators, research staff and investigators should plan to attend one of the sessions. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
Provide Thanksgiving Dinner to Families in Need -- Help provide Thanksgiving dinners to families in need through the Vernon Rice Memorial Butterball Turkey Program. The program was initiated in 1993 by Vernon Rice, a maintenance mechanic for the Homewood campus vehicle fleet, who died last December. Donations of $15 will purchase a Butterball gift certificate to help identified families purchase a turkey or other food items for Thanksgiving. To participate, send a $15 check, made payable to JHU Butterball to the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs, Evergreen House, 3rd floor. Adopt a Family for the Holidays -- The Adopt-a-Family Program gives Johns Hopkins departments and individuals a chance to help provide families gifts, clothing and food. Families are identified by the Baltimore City Department of Social Services. Various nonprofit health and human welfare agencies, including women's and children's shelters, are also "up for adoption."
Disney Club to Be Discontinued -- The Disney Club, which for several years has offered discounts to Hopkins employees, has announced that it will close on Dec. 31, 2003. Current members' benefits will continue until the expiration dates on their cards, or Dec. 31, 2003, whichever comes first. Renewals and new memberships will no longer be processed after Dec. 12, 2002.
