Recipients of Blood Donations Sought -- Have you or a family member ever received a blood donation? The Homewood campus blood drive coordinator is seeking Hopkins faculty, staff, students and retirees who would be willing to share their stories in order to encourage their eligible colleagues to give blood. The university plays a critical role in supplying blood donations to central Maryland hospitals, but the demand for blood in our region has risen each year, outstripping local supply.

Special Parking Rate to Raise Money for United Way -- In order to promote their new parking lot for Baltimore-Washington International Airport patrons, Airport Fast Park, a private company, is working with United Way of Central Maryland to offer travelers a discounted rate of $7.50 per day between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31 to park in their new 2500 space lot on West Nursery Road.

To receive the discount, travelers must present a United Way coupon to the Airport Fast Park attendant. Coupons are available from your United Way divisional coordinator or departmental solicitor, or from Lesley Giles at lgiles2@jhu.edu or 410-516-0373. Half of all coupon proceeds will be donated to United Way of Central Maryland's Community Safety Net, a network of local human service programs.

UWCM expects to raise up to $100,000 through this program. In a similar program in Austin, Texas, Airport Fast Park donated $90,000 to the local United Way to buy building materials for Habitat for Humanity.

Airport Fast Park's facility features a completely fenced, well-lighted lot staffed and monitored by cameras 24 hours per day. Patrons of the lot are picked up and dropped off at their cars and driven directly to and from the terminal in luxury vans, without stops or waiting. The lot's normal corporate rate is $8.75 per day, and the undiscounted rate is $10.75 per day.

Volunteer Nurses Needed -- The JHHS Office of Community Health needs volunteer nurses to provide first aid during a community exercise program one or two evenings per week. Interested nurses should call Veronica Best-Simmons at 410-955-9420.

Hopkins Night at Camden Yards -- Hopkins faculty, staff and students can reserve tickets to be part of the Hopkins cheering section at the Baltimore Orioles/ New York Yankees game on Saturday, Sept. 28. Seats in the upper reserve behind home plate are being held for Hopkins faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni and their guests. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. but may be changed to an afternoon game.

Tickets are $13 per seat for all ages and may be reserved by calling Matt Smith, program coordinator in the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs, at 410-516-0345. After you have confirmed ticket availability, you may purchase your tickets by sending a check or money order made payable to JHU-Orioles to Orioles Tickets, Evergreen House, 3rd floor, 4545 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21210-2693. Please be sure to include your name, Hopkins affiliation, number of tickets desired, and where to send the tickets. Checks may be sent by campus or U.S. mail.

Mentors Needed -- The Take Charge! Youth Violence Prevention Project needs mentors to keep children safe and free from injury through mentoring and community resource linkages. Each mentor will be trained in a violence prevention curriculum and will meet with each youth at least six times. A stipend of $240 will be given to each mentor upon completion of the project. Male mentors are especially needed.
