Open Office Hours/Summer Schedule -- Audrey Smith, vice president for human resources, encourages members of the Johns Hopkins community to share ideas and provide feedback and suggestions regarding human resources policies and programs by taking advantage of open office hours. The summer schedule of the open office hours is as follows:

  • Tues., July 23, JH@Eastern, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Wed., July 24, E. Baltimore, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Thurs., July 25, Homewood, 11 a.m. to noon
  • Tues., Aug. 20, E. Baltimore, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Wed., Aug. 21, Homewood, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Thurs., Aug. 22, JH@Eastern, 1 to 2 p.m.

  • Open office locations are Hopkins@Eastern, Suite C120, room C121, 1101 E. 33rd St.; East Baltimore campus, rooms 2-309, 2-200, 1830 E. Monument St.; and 617N Wyman Park Building on the Homewood campus.

    Hopkins Night at Camden Yards -- Join your Hopkins colleagues, families and friends to see the Baltimore Orioles battle the New York Yankees on Hopkins Night at Camden Yards, Saturday, Sept. 28. Several banks of seats in the upper reserve behind home plate are being held for Hopkins faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni and their guests. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., but may be changed to an afternoon game.

    Tickets are $13 per seat for all ages and may be reserved by calling Matt Smith, program coordinator in the Office of Faculty, Staff & Retiree Programs, at 410-516-0345. Send a check or money order made payable to JHU-Orioles to Orioles Tickets, Evergreen House, 3rd floor, 4545 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21210-2693. Please be sure to include your name, Hopkins affiliation, number of tickets desired, and where to send the tickets. Checks may be sent by campus or U.S. mail. Actual tickets do not usually arrive until sometime in August but often sell out earlier.


    Weight Watchers at Work -- The Office of Benefits Administration is offering a Weight Watchers at Work class, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at noon. Cost to JHU faculty and staff is $90 for the 10-week session. For more information or to register, call 410-516-0450.


    ACS Institutional Research Grants -- The American Cancer Society has made available $147,500 to support the initiation of promising new cancer research projects by junior faculty. Grants to a maximum of $20,000 (direct costs only), primarily for research supplies and technical services, will be awarded on a competitive basis.

    In conformance with ACS guidelines, applications will be accepted only from full-time, tenure-track JHU faculty members at the ranks of instructor and assistant professor who are within eight years of their first independent research or faculty appointment.
