JHU Mentors Introduce Barclay Students to World of
Sailboat Racing
|
|
On April 22, a group of JHU mentors--students, staff
and an engineering professor--and members of the Greater
Homewood Community Corp. hosted approximately 30 students
from the Barclay Elementary School on a visit to the Volvo
Around the World Ocean Race.
JHU
Press' Kathy Alexander, who was press officer of Chessie
Racing, Maryland's entry in the 1997-98 Whitbread Round the
World Race, gave the students a tour of the participating
sailboats docked in the Inner Harbor, and William Ball,
associate professor in DOGEE, talked
about sailing and engineering. The outing also included a
visit with a crew member, participation in hands-on exhibits
and a picnic.
