Dozens of Hopkins employees painted, nailed and scrubbed the Day of Caring away on Sept. 11 as they took time out to help refurbish a local women's shelter on behalf of Project PLASE Inc., a local organization dedicated to aiding poor and homeless citizens. The volunteer effort was part of National Civic Participation Week and the annual campaign for United Way of Central Maryland. Many of the volunteers who helped fix up and redecorate the shelter also donated needed goods such as soap, shampoo, new pillows, towels and framed artwork.
