APL Bikers With a Cause

Sixteen members of APL's Motorcycle Club took part this summer in the 12th annual Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day. The national event promotes motorcycle awareness and the positive effects this form of transportation has on the commuting environment.

"Motorcycles take up less parking space and contribute less to congestion than cars," said Jim Hemler (shown at far right), president of the APL Motorcycle Club. "This ride was an opportunity to make the public more aware of the positive aspects of being a bike owner and how diverse the bike-riding population is."

The APL Motorcycle Club began in the early 1960s but was inactive until it was revitalized in 2000 by security officer Kathy Payne. Today it has 70 members.
