Run, Don't Walk, Through Homewood Campus: First Blue Jay 5K Set for Saturday

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

In what is hoped will be an annual event, the first Blue Jay 5K will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, on the Homewood campus. The course will start in front of the Newton White Athletic Center, wind its way through the campus and finish on the JHU track.

Organizers are hoping to attract participants from the local running community, alumni and friends as well as current faculty, staff and students. The 5K will serve as a fundraiser, with all proceeds equally benefiting the track and field and cross-country teams.

Parking options for race participants are the university lot between Homewood Field and the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, metered parking or staff lots behind the JHU Athletic Center, and along West University Parkway.

Entry fees are $15 for all entries received by April 10, $17 at Falls Road Running Store (6247 Falls Rd., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., 410-296-5050) by April 11, $20 from 8:40 to 9:40 a.m. on race day at the Athletic Center.

The fee includes a race T-shirt (guaranteed to the first 200 registered) and refreshments following the race. Participants can pick up their race number and T-shirt on April 11 at Falls Road Running Store or on race day from 8:40 to 9:40 a.m. outside the main entrance to the Athletic Center.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in different age groups. For reservations or questions, call 410-516-3802 or e-mail bluejay5k@jhu.edu. To register online, go to: www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1053119.
