Great books, novel course
Four humanities profs create interdisciplinary offering for freshmen

Heard this one yet? An Italianist, a philosopher, a classicist and a professor of German walk into a room... Actually, there's no punch line. These four do walk into the same room, every week. This fall, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences premiered an interdisciplinary course intended to expose freshmen to the pleasures of reading and to spark their interest in the humanities.

Panel looks at future of stem cell use
The human embryonic stem cell lines currently eligible for research with federal funds are not suitable for use in future clinical trials, nor would they ensure fair access to new stem cell-based therapies, according to the scientists, philosophers and lawyers on a panel convened at Johns Hopkins.
