Saving Student Lives

Safety belt use is the highest it has ever been, but nearly 60 million Americans — who are disproportionately teens and young adults — are still risking their lives by driving unbuckled. That's why this month they are going to be surrounded with the message "Click It or Ticket: If you won't buckle up to save your life, then buckle up to save yourself a ticket."

By raising the visibility of the campaign, Johns Hopkins is joining more than 13,000 law enforcement agencies and other colleges and universities in a nationwide crackdown on seat belt violators.

The enforcement wave, which runs Nov. 17 to 30, is based on a proven public health model called "high visibility enforcement" to increase belt use. During these two weeks, police officers will intensify enforcement of seat belt and impaired driving laws.
