Spring Fair: A Tasty Tradition

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

Hundreds followed their noses, and stomachs, to Homewood campus at lunchtime on Friday to see what was cookin'. The answer was "plenty." The gamut of guilty pleasures ranged from fire-roasted pit beef, overstuffed gyros and pepper-and-onion-swathed Italian sausages to funnel cakes confettied with powdered sugar.

No ordinary cookout, it was opening day of the student-run Spring Fair, an annual event that draws thousands to Homewood for three days of entertainment, food and shopping.

On the Garland parking lot, colored lights flashed, carnival rides whirred and bells from games of chance rang out. On the upper and lower quads, fair patrons strolled by vendors selling clothing, pottery, scented candles, collectibles and enough jewelry for a few thousand Elizabeth Taylor clones.
