JHU Picnic

It was the biggest Johns Hopkins picnic ever. Some 2,500 members of the extended university family — triple the last record attendance — gathered on the Eastern campus on July 23 to play games, take a spin on carnival rides, dust off their dance steps, dunk an administrator or two and sate their appetites with favorite picnic fare.

It took 49 "celebrity" chefs to cook up and serve the 2,240 burgers, 2,080 kosher hot dogs, 240 veggie burgers and 2,400 pieces of chicken that starred on the food-laden tables.

Not even intermittent rain showers dampened the spirits of this record-breaking crowd, which picnicmeister Sandy Cobb, director of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs, attributed to this year's reduced ticket prices and easily accessible new location.
