Call for Biomedical Engineering Projects

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking projects for undergraduates enrolled in its Homewood Biomedical Design Associates course. In this course, teams of students work on practical biomedical engineering projects (research, clinical or assistive), which must be completed by May 2005. If you or colleagues in your department have a challenge that would fit into this course structure, you can submit a short problem statement at bme-admin1.bme.jhu.edu/cfdocs/courses/580.111.

The Web page also describes the program in more detail and highlights past projects. Contact Robert Allen, 410-516-4922, or Artin Shoukas, 410-955-2871, with any questions about the program.

Camp Counselors Needed

Volunteer camp counselors are needed for Pediatric Nephrology's first Camp All Stars Overnight, Oct. 2 to 3, where children and teens, ages 9 to 17, who are chronically ill with kidney failure will have fun while getting information about managing the lifestyle and medical regimes essential to their health. To volunteer, contact Nephrology social worker Beth Bounds at 443-287-6174 or bbounds@jhmi.edu. Training is provided in mid-September.

Golf Tournament Volunteers Needed

The Constellation Energy Classic returns this fall to Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley, Sept. 27 to Oct. 3. Johns Hopkins, whose Robert Packard Center for ALS Research is one of the beneficiaries, is recruiting people to act as marshals working inside the ropes alongside such golf legends as Tom Watson, Larry Nelson and Peter Jacobson. Other nonprofits benefiting from the event are the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Living Classrooms Foundation and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Contact Mike Renwick at renwick@jhu.edu or 410-516-4419 for an application. To learn about other volunteer opportunities related to the golf tournament, go to www.ceclassic.com or contact Cameron Colyer at 410-234-6197.
