New Zealand String Quartet

Rolf Gjelsten, cello; Gillian Ansell, viola; Douglas Beilman, violin; and Helene Pohl, violin

Begun in 1952 after the death of Alice Warder Garrett, a music supporter who each spring brought a string quartet to her Evergreen House home, the Evergreen Concert Series has since then showcased more than 185 emerging young and talented ensembles. This week, the series welcomes the New Zealand String Quartet, acclaimed for its dramatic energy and unique voice. The group debuted in 2000 in London's Wigmore Hall and performs 75 concerts a year.
