CER Presents Technology Fellows Symposium April 15

The Center for Educational Resources will present its Technology Fellowship Symposium this Thursday, April 15, to showcase new digital tools its faculty/fellow teams have developed to enhance and improve undergraduate education. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in Hodson Hall, Homewood campus.

Cheryl Wagner, coordinator of the Technology Fellows Program, said all faculty members are invited to attend the event, as they may see ways to incorporate similar resources into their own courses.

With grants provided by the offices of the Provost and President, the program pairs faculty members who have a course-specific need and students with a background in digital technology to develop innovative teaching resources. This year's symposium will feature 12 student-faculty collaborations. Each team will make a short presentation between 3 and 4 p.m. in 210 Hodson; a poster session will follow from 4 to 5 p.m. in the second-floor lobby. Light refreshments will be served.

The projects cover a broad range of topics and academic disciplines, and many could be adapted for other departmental uses. "Digital Music Interactions" and "eGuide to Paleoclimates," for example, provide students 24-hour online access to course materials and interactive resources that are not as easily presented in class. "Hopkins Paper Hopper" is an ever-expanding database of computer science research papers that is kept up-to-date with frequent developments in the field. "Interactive Case Studies: Evolution of Structures" provides animated multimedia analysis of its subject matter, allowing students to study such topics as the physics of the Eiffel Tower.

The Center for Educational Resources is jointly sponsored by the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the Sheridan Libraries and Hopkins Information Technology Services.
