2004 Blood Drives
In its continuing support of the work of the American Red
Cross, Johns Hopkins is announcing in advance the year's
schedule of blood drives to provide its various campus
communities maximum opportunities to give blood or assist
others in doing so.
The complete schedules for Homewood, Eastern, East
Baltimore, Peabody and APL are posted online at
www.jhu.edu/outreach/blooddrive/schedule.html.
Homewood and Eastern employees can schedule an
appointment to give blood, or find information on donor
eligibility and volunteering, by going to
www.jhu.edu/outreach/blooddrive or calling 410-516-0138
(Homewood drive) or 443-997-8108 (Eastern drive).
In East Baltimore, send an e-mail message to
johnshopkinsblooddrive@jhmi.edu to schedule an
appointment.
Peabody appointments can be made by contacting Emily
Frank, associate dean of students, at
eff@peabody.jhu.edu or 410-659-8100, ext. 3070.
Books & Beans
With the opening of Books & Beans, the new Women's Board
coffee bar in the Welch lobby, the library now permits
library users to move around the library with their food
and drinks just as they do with their laptops in the
library's wireless environment. Food and drink will be
permitted not only in the lobby but also in the stacks,
study areas and reading rooms. The same is true of the
library's satellites such as the Lilienfeld.
The third floor of the Welch building, home to the
History of Medicine's Historical Collection, will be the
only off-limits area for food and beverages. The library
simply asks visitors to practice basic courtesies such as
using covers for drinks; disposing of leftovers, empty
containers and wrappers in the appropriate receptacles; not
arranging for food to be delivered to the library; and
limiting their beverages to non-alcoholic ones.
