It took two days; hundreds of SUVs, minivans and family cars; and a brigade of upperclass volunteers, but by the end of Saturday, Aug. 28, the 1,000-plus members of the class of 2008 had been moved into their residence halls at Homewood.

President William R. Brody and his wife, Wendy, were on hand (and on scooters) to welcome the incoming class, which comprises 737 students in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and 350 in the Whiting School of Engineering.

The top-10 states from which they hail are, in order, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, California, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, Connecticut and Florida.

This year's class is 54 percent male and 46 percent female and includes 15 percent minority students and 7 percent international students.
