A Chili Day at Homewood

Carrie Bennett of Homewood Student Affairs serves up cups of competing contestants' chili to SPSBE's Kathy Clark and Charlene Walizer at the third annual JHU Chili Cook-Off and Bake-Off benefit for the United Way, held Nov. 29 at Homewood. More than 200 faculty, staff and students showed up to mingle, munch and cheer on their personal picks.

Thomas Langston, Military Science Department ROTC; Sherry Buckles, Annual Fund Office; and Nestor Torres, Information Technology, won first, second and third places, respectively, for their chili, while Jean Pugh, Whiting School of Engineering; Buckles; and Kenette Brueggeman, Center for Talented Youth, took first, second and third places for their baked goods. First-place winners were awarded gift certificates for free hotel stays and dinners.

With the end of the United Way campaign approaching, faculty and staff are reminded that it is not too late to help meet this year's goal. To print out a pledge form or pledge online, go to www.jhu.edu/unitedway or call 410-516-6060.
