Nurse Researcher Miyong Kim Selected for Prestigious
Fellowship
By Lynn Schultz-Writsel School of
Nursing
A national fellowship program focused on leading the
country's health care system into the 21st century has been
awarded to Johns
Hopkins School of Nursing associate professor Miyong
Kim. Kim is one of 20 nurses in executive leadership roles
nationwide selected as a 2005 Robert Wood Johnson Executive
Nurse Fellow.
Now in its seventh year, the three-year fellowship
program is designed to strategically position the voice of
nursing across many sectors of the economy in a health care
system undergoing unprecedented change and challenges.
Martha Hill, dean of the School of Nursing, said, "Dr.
Kim has demonstrated expert knowledge, commitment to the
value of research in improving care and outcomes in
minority populations, and determination to succeed in a
rigorous academic environment. She now stands at a critical
crossroad in her career where this fellowship can ensure
her emergence as a premier nurse leader."
As part of the fellowship, Kim will have an
opportunity to undertake a nursing leadership project, with
funding support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and
matching funds from the SoN. Kim has chosen to develop a
replicable program to enhance research, teaching and
patient care and service in the delivery of culturally
sensitive and effective health to underserved populations.
Although she will focus on Korean-Americans, she predicts
the program will be transferable to other ethnic minority
populations.
