Special Ed Teacher Training

A SET-IT (Special Education Teacher Immersion Training) session is scheduled for 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, on the Montgomery County Campus.

SET-IT is a partnership between Johns Hopkins University and Montgomery County Public Schools that offers a master's concentration in special education, mild to moderate disabilities.

Project participants are employed by MCPS as special education instructional assistants and immersed in intensive field experiences throughout their graduate study. Eligible applicants include current special education instructional assistants and other individuals who hold a bachelor's degree. For more information, call 301-294-7040.

 

Anesthesia Demonstrations

The Animal Care and Use Committee is sponsoring two small animal gas anesthesia demos. They will be held at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, in 403 Ross, East Baltimore campus.

What Is Engineering? Fair

The fourth annual "What is Engineering? Fair," co-sponsored by Lockheed Martin, is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Montgomery County Campus, 9601 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, Md.

The fair is designed to give high school and early college students an opportunity to learn about the diversity of careers in engineering and bioscience from local companies such as Lockheed Martin, Bechtel, MedImmune, Shapiro & Duncan and others. During this interactive event, attendees, their parents and the public will be able to see engineering and scientific systems at work in many of the sponsors' exhibits, and to speak with local scientists and engineers. Teaching as a Second Career

The opportunity to become a teacher is now within the reach of more working adults because of Professional Immersion programs offered by Johns Hopkins and the Montgomery County Public Schools.

These two-year graduate programs are designed to fill critical areas of need in schools by bringing second-career adults into the field of education. Information sessions will take place every half hour from 4:30 to 6 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Montgomery County Campus, 9601 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, Md.

The programs are currently recruiting applicants interested in the critical need areas of special education, secondary mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, Earth science, French, Spanish, English and ESOL. SON Open House

The School of Nursing will host a Spring Open House for interested students on Saturday, March 5. Seminars will focus on baccalaureate, master's, post-master's, doctoral and certificate nursing programs. Topics of discussion will include the Accelerated and Traditional Baccalaureate Program, BS/MSN, MSN/MPH, Forensic Nursing, MSN/MBA, MSN/PhD and the Hopkins Business of Nursing Certificate. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Anne M. Pinkard Building, located at 525 N. Wolfe St., East Baltimore campus.

Faculty and administration, admissions and financial aid staff, and current students will be available to speak with attendees; also expected are representatives from the U.S. military, Peace Corps, Johns Hopkins Army Nurse Corps and The Johns Hopkins Hospital and affiliates.
