Request for Proposals

The Acheson J. Duncan Fund for the Advancement of Research in Statistics requests proposals for small grants to support research projects in statistics, probability and stochastic processes. The fund was created in 1997 by an endowment established by professor emeritus Acheson Duncan at the time of his death. Duncan was a pioneer in research and application of quality control and industrial statistics.

Faculty and students throughout Hopkins are eligible to apply for funding for collaborative projects with a member of the faculty in the Applied Mathematics and Statistics Department. Items funded might include travel to research conferences and workshops, computer equipment and software, matching funds for grant proposals, short-term visits of collaborators to Hopkins, interdepartmental seminars, partial support for research assistants and seed money for new research. Most grants will be less than $5,000.

Proposals should be brief, preferably no more than three single-sided pages; provide itemized expense estimates; and be signed by each investigator. Proposals may be submitted at any time to committee chair John Wierman, Applied Mathematics and Statistics Department, 302 Whitehead Hall.

 

Relay for Life

Teams of eight to 15 people are now being formed for the JHU Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society's signature fund-raising event, to raise money to fund cancer research, patient services, community outreach, education, camps and more. On April 9, the teams will come together in Homewood's upper quad to walk a track, listen to music and generally have food and fun all night long to commemorate those who lost their battle with cancer and honor those who have survived.

Volunteer Week

Be a part of the solution this year by giving your time and energy during National Volunteer Week, an annual week of community service opportunities running from April 17 to 23. A number of service opportunities are planned for the Johns Hopkins community.
