IACUC Semiannual Inspections

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee will conduct its semiannual inspections of all areas at Johns Hopkins that are used for housing, research and teaching involving animals from Nov. 1 through Nov. 14. These inspections include all divisions of the university.

People familiar with the care and use of animals in these areas should be available to answer the inspectors' questions; anyone who will not be available during the scheduled inspection time should contact the Animal Care and Use Committee in advance to reschedule.

Pilot Project Grants

The Johns Hopkins NIEHS Center in Urban Environmental Health is offering pilot project grants of up to $20,000 for the period April 1, 2006, through March 31, 2007. The grants aim to stimulate new lines of research on such topics as the adverse health impact of hazardous environmental exposures on populations; how the interaction of socioeconomic status and environmental exposure contributes to health disparities; early biological effects of environmental agents in urban populations; community outreach and environmental health education; the molecular epidemiology, exposure assessment and mechanisms of action of agents found in the urban environment.

Body Tomography Seminar

The 22nd annual Computed Body Tomography seminar, sponsored by the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, is scheduled for Feb. 16 through 19 at the Disney Yacht and Beach Club Resort Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, Fla.

The seminar will provide a comprehensive review of recent advances by Elliot Fishman, professor of radiology at the School of Medicine. Cost for the seminar is $650 for physicians. For more information, contact Laura Friend at lfriend@jhmi.edu.
