State Department's Boucher to speak about Bush's recent
trip
Upon his return from accompanying President Bush to
South Asia, Richard Boucher, assistant secretary of state
who heads the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs,
will discuss the main achievements of the president's visit
and how those achievements fit into the larger U.S. foreign
policy framework.
Boucher will speak at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9,
in the Nitze Building's Kenney Auditorium. Non-SAIS

JHM recognizes National Patient Safety Awareness
Week
With this week designated by the National Patient
Safety Foundation as National Patient Safety Awareness Week
— an education and awareness-building effort for
improving safety at the local level — Johns Hopkins
Medicine has scheduled a number of efforts to highlight
safety as an organizational priority.
Among them are two Patient Safety Grand Rounds. Lucian
Leape of the Harvard School of Public Health will address
"When Good Doctors Go Bad" from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
March 7, in Hurd Hall, East Baltimore campus. John Gosbee
of the National Center for Patient Safety and the U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs will give a talk titled
"Hiding in Plain Sight: Patient Safety Design Problems"
from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, also in Hurd
Hall.
In addition, poster presentations, safety cart unit
visits and safety fairs will take place at various times
and locations throughout the medical campus.
Fan Zone at Homewood Field debuts at Princeton
game
The Fan Zone at Homewood Field debuted on Saturday,
prior to the Blue Jay-Princeton lacrosse matchup. The Fan
Zone, which will open 90 minutes before each home game,
includes interactive lacrosse games, autographs, raffles,
face painting, a cartoonist and official JHU
lacrosse merchandise. The
event is presented by STX.
Director of International Energy Agency to speak at
SAIS
Claude Mandil, executive director of the International
Energy Agency, will give the next talk in the W.P. Carey
Global Leader Lecture Series at
SAIS. The IEA,
based in Paris, acts as energy policy adviser for its 26
member countries in their effort to ensure reliable,
affordable and clean energy for their citizens.
Mandil will speak at 5:30 tonight, March 6, about
"Energy and the Challenge of Global Sustainability." The
event will be held in the Nitze Building's Kenney

The W.P. Carey Global Leader Lecture Series was
established to bring the best examples of public and
private sector leadership to SAIS, where these executives
can share with students and faculty their perspectives on
leadership and success in the international arena.
