Raising an army of public health advocates
City health commissioner enlists JHU undergrads to assist the underserved

Welcoming Baltimore's team: Project Health founder Rebecca Onie joins Mark Marino, city site director, and student volunteers at the group's first weekly 'reflection' session, where they discuss progress and issues.

Dan Cataldo says it took less than two hours on the job to fully understand the value of Project Health, a national volunteer program for undergraduates that was introduced to Baltimore this fall. That's all it took for him to help his first client.

Steps taken to address recent racial concerns
Tensions ran high at Homewood last week in the wake of Halloween festivities gone awry. Following a Sigma Chi fraternity party whose invitation invoked offensive racial stereotyping, the university suspended all activities of the fraternity, pending investigation.

SPH joins Bloomberg's nonsmoking initiative
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health will be one of five organizations to receive funds from a $125 million global initiative recently established by Michael R. Bloomberg. Over the next two years, the partner organizations will implement and coordinate activities to help stop the global epidemic of tobacco use.
