Aiming Small, Thinking Big
NanBio technology institute will involve 75-plus faculty members


Heading up the institute for NanoBioTechnology will be Peter Season, Director, and Denis Wirtz, associate Director

Johns Hopkins is preparing to aim enormous research and educational resources at some exceedingly small targets. Drawing on the expertise of more than 75 faculty members from such diverse disciplines as engineering, biology, medicine and public health, the university will officially launch its new Institute for NanoBioTechnology on Monday, May 15, with a celebration featuring prominent speakers.

New Focus on Sensor technology
Fourteen Baltimore researchers are part of a new national engineering research center that is expected to revolutionize sensor technology, yielding devices that have a unique ability to detect minute amounts of chemicals in the atmosphere, whether they are emitted from factories or exhaled in human breath. The Baltimore contingent in the six-university consortium includes seven faculty members from four Johns Hopkins University schools and seven from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
