Continuing a 33-year tradition, the university honored retiring staff and those celebrating significant milestone anniversaries with a dinner and awards reception, held this year on June 20 at the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center on the Homewood campus. More than 300 staff members received service awards while they and their guests enjoyed a wonderful meal and the company of colleagues and friends.

The Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs organizes the event each year to honor staff contributions to the university, the workplace and the community as they retire or mark 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and even 45 years of service.

Standing in for President Brody, who was unable to attend the event, was Steven Knapp, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, who presented the service awards.

Among the milestone anniversary awards were a framed handmade paper sculpture of Johns Hopkins, a hand-painted decorative platter bearing the Johns Hopkins seal and a lead crystal vase set in a wood base with a personalized engraved plaque.

Retiring staff members received framed certificates of appreciation. Those with 25 or more years of service had a choice of a Johns Hopkins rocking chair or captain's chair or a framed certificate with a bronze commemorative medallion.

Staff with 39 or more years of service also were recognized.
