Upgrade Set for Homewood and Mount Washington Phone Systems

The Telecommunications Department will soon be consolidating the Homewood and Mount Washington telephone systems and installing a new voice mail system that will serve both campuses.

In addition to providing enhanced features, the new voice mail system will allow for easy forwarding of messages between Homewood, Mount Washington, East Baltimore, Bayview and White Marsh.

The tentative date for the changes is Dec. 15, with testing of the voice mail system set to take place during the next two weeks.

The consolidation, which incorporates the latest in call processing technology, will allow for a unified five-digit dialing plan between all phones at all locations now served by the Homewood or Mount Washington systems. It also will bolster voice communications disaster recovery capabilities.

On or about Nov. 1, users will receive e-mail instructions on how to access their new mailboxes, record greetings and take a short, system-prompted training course to familiarize them with any new system features and procedures.

Until the new voice mail system becomes active on Dec. 15, existing systems will continue to operate.
