Nicholas Jones, dean of the Whiting School of
Engineering, announced recently that he had
restructured his office and made changes to the
responsibilities of some associate deans.
In making the reorganization, he said, "I believe that
such changes will more closely align the
various deans' duties with the strategic plan, will better
focus individual roles, will provide better
service to students and faculty, and will free up more time
for the academic deans to concentrate on
strategic outreach."
The changes, which took effect in August, are as
follows:
Andrew Douglas has become vice dean for faculty. His
responsibilities include all faculty affairs,
including appointments, promotions, annual reviews,
disciplinary actions and matters related to conflict
of interest and commitment. Douglas also will manage the
oversight of International Programs.
Marc Donohue is now vice dean for research with
responsibility for strategic research
initiatives, compliance and oversight of centers and
institutes.
Ed Scheinerman has been named to the newly created
position of associate dean for education.
He will manage the staff of the Office of Engineering
Advising, as well as have responsibility for the
ABET accreditation process, graduate student affairs, the
Center for Leadership Education and the
Center for Educational Outreach.
Jim Aumiller, the recently named associate dean for
finance, has assumed oversight of
Technology Transfer.
Others with new titles are Hedy Alavi, assistant dean
for international programs; Joseph Stone,
information technology manager; and Dan Horn, assistant
dean for academic programs.
