Bill Nye the Science Guy to Speak at MSE
Symposium
Nye
|
In the five years that his eponymous show, Bill Nye
the Science Guy, was on television, Nye
picked up 28 Emmys and became known for his ability to help
people understand the science around
them. It didn't hurt, of course, that the
scientist/engineer/inventor, once employed by Boeing, had
made a career switch to being a comedy writer and
performer.
Nye's topic will be climate change when he visits the
Homewood campus on Tuesday, Oct. 23, as
the sixth speaker in the 2007 Milton S.
Eisenhower Symposium. The doors to Shriver Hall open at
7:30 p.m. for the talk, which begins at 8 p.m.
Co-sponsors of Nye's talk are the departments of Earth and Planetary
Sciences,
Geography and
Environmental Engineering, Biology, and Physics and
Astronomy.
The remaining events in this year's symposium are a
talk by actor/director/activist Edward
James Olmos, on Nov. 8, and a performance by the political
satire group the Capitol Steps, on Nov. 2.
The theme of the symposium is Renewing American Culture:
The Perspectives That Shape Our
Identity.
