Summer Fellowships for WSE Undergraduates

The Institute for Computational Medicine, an institute in the Whiting School of Engineering and the School of Medicine, will sponsor two noncredit summer research fellowships for undergraduates in the Whiting School. Applicants for the Raj and Neera Singh Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship should be entering their junior or senior year. The stipend is $5,000, and the 10-week projects must take place between June 1 and Aug. 30.

Fellowships are awarded in the areas of biological systems modeling, computational anatomy and image analysis, and mathematical bioinformatics. Applicants should contact a core faculty member working in their research area of choice to discuss possible projects. Go to: www.icm.jhu.edu/faculty for a complete list. Applicants should develop a two-page research proposal in collaboration with their possible fellowship mentor. Proposals will be reviewed competitively by the ICM core faculty to determine fellowship recipients.

Women's Network Leadership Award

The JHU Women's Network is seeking nominations for the annual Women's Leadership Award, to be presented at the Spring Luncheon on May 11 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. One honoree from each chapter — APL, Bayview, Homewood, JHMI and SAIS — will be selected based on evidence of the following criteria: motivating others in their work and community; developing leadership skills in others; mentoring others in their work; increasing employee knowledge of critical issues facing an office, division or department of the university; and strengthening commitment of the faculty, staff and students to the university.

Anyone may nominate a member of the faculty, staff or student body who has provided leadership at JHU.To do so, download a form at: www.jhu.edu/~wforum/events/leadership.html. Nominations must be received via e-mail by Friday, March 3.

 

Homewood Arts Awards and Grants

The Homewood Arts Programs Certificate is awarded to graduating seniors who have made a significant contribution to the nonacademic arts at JHU.

The certificate acknowledges and rewards long-term and dedicated participation in one of five areas. To apply, go to: web.jhu.edu/studentprograms/homewood_arts/ artscertificate.html. Juniors must apply by March 1.

The Arts Innovation Program seeks to stimulate efforts by Homewood faculty, staff and students through two complementary programs. The first offers funding to faculty and staff who wish to create credit-bearing courses in the arts, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and cross-departmental courses; the second seeks to inspire the artistic efforts of students, either those currently engaged in arts activities or those wishing to create a new venture. Grant amounts are up to $2,000 for students and $8,000 for faculty/staff.
