NASA Head to Speak at Leaders & Legends

Michael Griffin, NASA administrator, is the scheduled
speaker for this month's installment of
the Carey Business
School's Leaders & Legends breakfast speaker series, to
be held from 7:30 to 9
a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Renaissance Harborplace
Hotel.
Prior to his current post, Griffin was head of the
Space Department at Johns Hopkins' Applied
Physics Laboratory. He was previously president and
chief operating officer of In-Q-Tel Inc., and also
served in several positions within Orbital Sciences Corp.,
including chief executive officer of its
Magellan Systems Division and general manager of the Space
Systems Group.
A registered Professional Engineer in Maryland and
California, Griffin received his bachelor's
degree in physics from Johns Hopkins; master's degrees from
Johns Hopkins (physics), Catholic
University of America (aerospace science), the University
of Southern California (electrical
engineering) and George Washington University (civil
engineering); and a doctorate in aerospace
engineering from the University of Maryland. He also holds
an MBA from Loyola College.
The lead author of more than two dozen technical
papers as well as the textbook Space Vehicle
Design, Griffin is a recipient of the NASA Exceptional
Achievement Medal, the Space Systems Medal
of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics,
and the Department of Defense
Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest award given
by that department to a nongovernment
employee.
The Leaders & Legends monthly breakfast series
features today's most influential business and
public policy leaders addressing topics of global interest
and importance. The series is designed to
engage business and community professionals in an
examination of the most compelling issues and
challenges facing society today.
