Kimmel Center Opens Residential Pavilion for Patients and Families

The Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion, a new facility for out-of-town cancer patients receiving treatment at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, was dedicated Dec. 5. The 39-room facility, located across from the Weinberg Building at Orleans Street and Broadway, includes 29 suites and 10 apartments for extended stays, with common areas, kitchens, computers and wireless Internet service. The pavilion was constructed with support from Willard Hackerman and Sidney Kimmel, both of whom were present at the dedication event.

Cutting the ceremonial ribbon are Sarah Hoehlein, director of residential living at the Kimmel Center; William Nelson, director of the Kimmel Center; Willard Hackerman, trustee emeritus of the university and president and CEO of Whiting-Turner Contracting; Sidney Kimmel, founder and chairman of the board of Jones Apparel Group; and Michael Hibler, senior associate director of development for the Cancer Center.
