Peabody launches podcasts with interviews, event highlights

Peabody has launched a monthly podcast to highlight its major public events. Each edition will include details about upcoming events and interviews with faculty artists.

The January podcast features two interviews: Jeffrey Sharkey, pianist and director of the Peabody Institute, talks about this week's faculty chamber concert (see "Calendar," in this issue, for details), and cellist Amit Peled about his Jan. 29 performance of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas.

Gilman Hall pedestrian tunnel to close on Saturday

The pedestrian tunnel under Gilman Hall on the Homewood campus will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 26, and will remain closed for the duration of the Gilman Hall renovation project, which is scheduled to be completed by June 2010. Corrections

A Jan. 7 obituary for Ruben Adler, director of the Retinal Degeneration Center, gave his incorrect age. He was 67. In addition, his survivors include a sister, not a brother.

 

JHU named to Peace Corps list, with 14 undergrad alums serving

Since 1961, when President John Kennedy established the Peace Corps, 516 Johns Hopkins alumni have joined the volunteer service. This year, Johns Hopkins has entered the top-25 rankings on the organization's annual list of Top Peace Corps Volunteer Producing Colleges and Universities. With 14 undergraduate alumni currently serving, Johns Hopkins is number 24 among small colleges and universities. Four graduate alumni are also serving.

 

Pollster Andrew Kohut to speak at SAIS

Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center, will speak at the School of Advanced International Studies at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Kohut's talk is titled "The Power of Public Opinion and Foreign Policy."
