Edwin Meese To Speak At Pre-Law Symposium

     Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III will address
the second annual Pre-Law Society Symposium at 3 p.m. on Monday,
April 24, in the Garrett Room of the Milton S. Eisenhower Library
on the Homewood campus. 

     The Pre-Law Society assists students considering a law
career prepare for getting into law school and helps make them
aware of the issues that await them professionally, said the
society's president Lou Shoch. 

     "We also want to make the point that there are serious
Hopkins students who are interested in a professional career
besides medicine," said Shoch, a junior from Los Angeles. 

     Meese, who is expected to talk about the role of attorney
general, the function of the special prosecutor and the legal
aspects of affirmative action, served as President Ronald
Reagan's attorney general from 1985 to 1988, following many years
as one of his closest advisers. 

     The symposium, which is open to the public, is made possible
through the support of the university administration and the
Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Charitable Foundation Inc., whose
chair, Leonard Stulman ('25 A&S), recently established an endowed
chair in history at Hopkins, which is currently held by Franklin
Knight.
