Letter: From the Office of Johns Hopkins Medicine


Dear Colleague:

     As you know, a search committee has been appointed to
identify and recruit the senior executive officer for Johns
Hopkins Medicine, the new governance structure that will unify
the hospital and health system and the medical school under a
single leader. The title of this new senior leader, for working
purposes, is chief executive officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine
and dean of the School of Medicine.

     The trustees of the university and the hospital and health
system created Johns Hopkins Medicine to enable our medical
institutions to function in the most effective possible manner in
pursuit of their long-standing missions of excellence in clinical
care, biomedical research and medical education. The changing
structure of academic medicine and healthcare delivery systems in
the country requires a governance structure for Johns Hopkins
Medicine that is both responsive and effective.

     Members of the search committee include the following

     Recognizing the significance of this appointment, the
members of the search committee solicit your help in identifying
the very best possible candidates. Please share with us your
thoughts on the best candidates as well as any issues that you
believe will be important for the CEO/dean to address.

     We have engaged an executive search firm to assist us. Roger
Quick, president and managing director of Norman Broadbent
International, Chicago, who has had extensive experience in
helping to place senior officers in medical institutions, will be
working closely with us during the search.

     In order to give everyone an opportunity to comment on the
search and issues facing Johns Hopkins Medicine, we have
scheduled a town meeting to be held on Thursday, April 25, at 5
p.m., in Hurd Hall. Members of the search committee will be
