The JHU ROTC is accepting applications for two- and three-year merit scholarships worth up to $16,000 a year. The scholarships also pay $450 per year for books and $150 per month as a stipend. For more information, call Captain Shear at 410-516-4683. Deadline: first week of March.


The 1998 Provost's Undergraduate Research Awards will provide a number of $2,500 grants to support original research, composition or performance projects next summer or fall. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors in Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Nursing, and at Peabody, are eligible. The money can pay the cost of research or creative projects. Winners can receive up to $1,500 of the total award as a cash stipend or receive academic credit for the work. Applications are available at 207 Garland, or by calling 410-516-4587. Deadline for summer projects: noon on March 13.


The Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts is offering a $1,500 cash award to a graduating senior in Arts and Sciences or Engineering, or a fourth-year medical student, who can demonstrate excellence in performance, execution or composition in music, theater, dance, writing, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film or videotape. To compete, submit to Julia Morgan, 240 Garland, a faculty recommendation, examples of work done while at Hopkins, any other evidence of artistic achievement and a cover sheet.
