The School of Continuing Studies has scheduled an open house for Wednesday, Jan. 21, to give prospective students an opportunity to meet faculty, staff and students in the SCS part-time bachelor's degree programs in business, information systems and interdisciplinary studies. The Summer 1998 NASA Academy is accepting applications. Undergraduate and graduate internship opportunities are available in engineering, science and mathematics at three NASA field centers (Ames Research Center, Dryden Flight Research Center and Goddard Space Flight Center); a NASA Academy is in the planning stage for the Kennedy Space Center.

All full-time undergraduates are invited to apply for university grants of up to $2,500 to support original research, composition or performance projects next summer or fall. The 1998 Provost's Undergraduate Research Awards will provide a number of grants to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors in the schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Nursing, and in the Peabody Conservatory. The money can be used to pay the costs of the winner's research or creative projects. Winners can also choose either to receive up to $1,500 of the total award as a cash stipend or to receive academic credit for their work.

Completed applications must be submitted by noon on Friday, March 13, for summer projects, or by Friday, April 10, for fall semester proposals.

Glamour magazine's 1998 Top Ten College Women Competition is offering a $1,000 scholarship to accomplished female juniors. The competition recognizes exceptional achievements and the vision, determination and academic excellence of women. Candidates will be evaluated on leadership experience, personal involvement in community and campus affairs, and academic excellence. Applications are available at the Office of Student Financial Services, 146 Garland Hall, on the Homewood campus. The deadline for applications is Jan. 31.

Backpacker magazine is offering $1,000 scholarships to full-time juniors and seniors. Applicants must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in any major field of study. The scholarship program is designed to honor students who have displayed initiative in improving or protecting the outdoors and the environment by taking a leadership role in outdoor activities and encouraging others to do the same.

Applications are available in the Office of Student Financial Services, 146 Garland Hall on the Homewood campus. Additional information and an application ay also be obtained on the Web at http://www.bpbasecamp.com. The application deadline is Feb. 16.

The Johns Hopkins Women's Forum will hold its second annual conference, titled "Living and Learning," on Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Homewood campus. The conference is open to all members of the Hopkins community. Cost for registration is $10 per person and includes morning and afternoon workshops, a continental breakfast and a buffet lunch. Registration forms will be sent out in early February.
