Groundbreaking ceremony to mark EBMC renovation

A ceremony marking the start of renovations to the East Baltimore Medical Center is planned at the site, 1000 E. Eager St., from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. Expected guests include U.S. senator Paul Sarbanes; Mayor Kurt Schmoke; Hattie N. Harrison, chair of the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition and 45th district delegate; and state senator Nathaniel J. McFadden.

The renovation is expected to take two and a half years and cost between $4 million and $4.5 million, with $1 million coming from the city via HEBCAC. Alterations will include expansion of the obstetrics and gynecology area and CarePlus Center, EBMC's urgent care facility; new air circulation and phone systems; computer upgrades; and a relocated front entrance, which will face Sterling Street, on the north side of the building.

JHOC valet parking program to continue

After evaluation of the pilot valet parking program at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, Larry J. Cohen, director of JHMI parking and transportation services, has decided to operate the program permanently.

New hours for the service are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
