Safe Housing
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The transfer of 375,000 low-use research materials from the
Milton S. Eisenhower Library collection to a new off-site
shelving facility in Moravia Park will begin this week after
nearly two years of planning.

The facility, located about 20 minutes from the Homewood
campus, was created as a last resort to preserve the library's
growing collection and to provide additional reader space at the
MSEL.

Materials shelved in the climate-controlled building may be
requested at the MSEL circulation desk, by fax at 516-7317,
through e-mail at moravia@jhu.edu, or by calling Eisenhower
Express at 516-8358. Items requested before noon will be
available at the circulation desk by 5 p.m. the same day;
requests received by 5 p.m. or on weekends will be available by
noon the following business day.

Off-site facility supervisor Robert Patterson said the
inventory-controlled system will ensure the safety and
preservation of the volumes. "Books will never slip through the
cracks," Patterson said of the computerized tracking system.
"They will always be accounted for."
