The Homewood campus Parking Office issues special permanent and temporary permits that allow members of the Homewood community to park in reserved designated parking spaces if they are registered members of the Homewood campus paid parking system and provide appropriate documentation. Proper usage of the campus parking system is monitored by the Security Office, which enforces Homewood's parking regulations.
By adhering to special procedures, the Homewood campus can provide and monitor parking for persons who qualify for, and require, special parking accommodations. Permit holders who are found to have obtained the permit through misrepresentation, are willfully and improperly using the permit or are otherwise abusing the disabled parking privileges are subject to having their parking permit revoked prior to its expiration date, subject to a fine as stated in the published Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus Parking and Traffic Regulations. Permanent Members of the Homewood campus paid parking system who require a permanent disabled parking permit must submit to the Parking Office a copy of form VR-210 (Maryland Department of Transportation certification of disabled person permit), plates or similar out-of-state permit/plates and certification of his/her disability from a medical doctor. This permit displays the permit number, plate, tag number, medical certification number and expiration date of the permit, and it verifies that the holder meets the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus requirements for disabled parking. Permanent members may park in those spaces designated by the international symbol as disabled parking or at open metered spaces throughout the campus.
Temporary Members of the Homewood campus paid parking system who require a temporary disabled permit must submit to the Parking Office detailed medical certification of the disability and its anticipated duration. Should the registrant possess a Maryland Department of Transportation temporary disabled permit, a copy of the form VR-210 (certification for disabled persons) should be included with the medical doctor's certification. Extensions of temporary disabled permits will be granted upon reapplication following the above procedures. Depending on the nature and duration of the ambulatory condition, reapplication may be required every 30 days for temporary disabled permits. Temporarily disabled members of the Homewood parking system, excluding those with Maryland Department of Transportation certification of disabled person permit, may park at open metered spaces only, throughout the campus.
All documentation for permanent and temporary disabled parking permits will be reviewed by parking administration, and, upon approval, the Parking Office will issue a disabled parking permit indicating the appropriate expiration date. The permits are authorized by the administrator of business services in the Office of Facilities Management. All permits are nontransferable and must be displayed inside the vehicle, on the driver's-side dashboard.
