Look Out Spice Girls!

Johns Hopkins Gazette Online Edition

LOOK OUT SPICE GIRLS, here come the Hopkins Halloween nurses. Nurses from the School of Public Health's Center for Immunization Research got dressed up for Halloween to bring some cheer to patients at the hospital's Oncology Center and radiology outpatient areas. The nurses also wanted to honor the spirit of their former boss, Mary Lou Clements-Mann, the center's founding director, who died Sept. 2 in the Swissair jetliner crash off the coast of Canada.

"We wanted her to know that we are carrying on her mission with humor and cheer," said Nancy Frazier, a.k.a Commune Nurse, who is pictured center with long blonde hair and hippie attire. "She was a hard worker, very passionate and committed to a global vision. We want to keep going on with that same spirit."

The costumes the nurses wore were inspired by the Cherry Ames nurse book series. Pictured standing from left are Sabrina Drayton (Ghetto Nurse), Arlene Bloom (Crackerjack Nurse, a nickname Clements-Mann gave to good nurses), Bobbie Casey (Veterinary Nurse), Vickie Hodgins (School Nurse), Frazier, Jennifer Marron (Super Nurse), Gwen Hammer (Dude Ranch Nurse), Jane Reynolds (Bawlmer Hon Nurse); in front is Betty Schappell (Baby Nurse).
