Residence Hall Close Down

The housing contract for all freshmen of the AMRs, Hopkins Inn and Wolman is for the period beginning on Friday, August 22, 2014, and ending on Friday, May 15, 2015. All sophomore and upperclassman Residence Hall 9-month contracts begin on Sunday, August 24, 2014, and end on Friday, May 15, 2015. Residents may not move in before the assigned date or move out past May 15, 2015 at noon.

In addition, the AMRs,  Wolman, Hopkins Inn, Rogers House, Charles Commons (9 month contract spaces) and McCoy halls will close for winter break and all residents must move out by noon. These soaces will be closed from Saturday, December 20 through Sunday, January 4, until noon. Since heat and hot water are turned down during this time and exterior door locks are changed, no exceptions will be made to this closedown requirement.

Residents who live in a 9 month contract area and who need to stay for Thanksgiving or Spring Break will be required to notify us of their plans in advance and may remain in their room during those breaks. Dining services will not be available and monitored common areas will be closed, but students will be able to remain in housing for one or both of these breaks. Winter Break will remain unchanged: all 9 month areas will close down.

When can I begin mailing packages

This year you may begin to send packages on August 15th. We ask that you not send items prior to this time as secured storage space in the mailrooms is extremely limited. We cannot accept items to be stored in students' rooms (or elsewhere) ahead of time.

Mailroom Hours:

The AMR II mailroom will be open during Freshman Move-In hours and will switch to a full operational schedule beginning Monday, August 25th. The Wolman and Charles Commons mailrooms will be open:
  • Friday, August 22nd: 9:00am – 8:00pm
  • Saturday, August 23rd: 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Sunday, August 24th: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Once a delivered parcel is received and processed, an email notification will be sent to the student's JHU email account and the package will be safely stored in the mail room. Following move in weekend, the package/s will be made available during regular package pick up hours.

Street Parking

Street parking in Charles Village is extremely limitedaround the Hopkins campus, and most of it is metered or limited hour-only parking. There are heavy ticket and towing penalties. As such, students are strongly discouraged from bringing cars to campus because living in the residence halls does not qualify the students for either a city or acampus parking permit. For more information about parking on campus, please call the parking office at 410-516-7275.

Construction in the area: Please be diligent in complying with all parking signs on or around campus. There is a great deal of construction occurring around the Homewood campus, specifically Charles Street between 25th Street and University Parkway. Please be mindful of street closures and all construction areas. For more information about the construction, please visit http://www.fm.jhu.edu/charlesstreetconstruction.
