Residence Hall Close Down

The housing contract for all freshmen of the AMRs, Hopkins Inn, McCoy Hall and Wolman is for the period beginning on Friday, August 21, 2015, and ending on Friday, May 13, 2016. All sophomore and upperclassman Residence Hall 9-month contracts begin on Sunday, August 23, 2015, and end on Friday, May 13, 2016. Residents may not move in before the assigned date or move out past May 13, 2016 at 12-noon.

In addition, the AMRs,  Wolman, Hopkins Inn, Rogers House, Charles Commons (9 month contract spaces) and McCoy halls will close for winter vacation and all residents must move out. These spaces will be closed from 12-noon Saturday, December 19 through 12-noon Sunday, January 3. Since heat and hot water are turned down during this time and exterior door locks are changed, no exceptions will be made to this closedown requirement.

Residents who live in a 9 month contract area who need to stay for Thanksgiving or Spring Break will be required to notify Housing of their plans in advance and may remain in their room during those vacations. Dining services will not be available and monitored common areas will be closed, but students will be able to remain in housing for one or both of these vacations. For Winter Vacation: all 9 month areas will close.

When does the mailroom begin accepting packages?

The Residence Hall Mailroom will begin accepting packages on August 10th for approved early arrivals and August 17th for regular move-in. We ask that you not send items prior to this time as secured storage space in the mailrooms is extremely limited. We cannot accept items to be stored in students' rooms (or elsewhere) ahead of time.

Mailroom Hours:

The AMR II mailroom will be open during Freshman Move-In hours and will switch to a full operational schedule beginning Monday, August 24th. The Wolman and Charles Commons mailrooms will be open:

  • Friday, August 21st: 9:00am – 8:00pm
  • Saturday, August 22nd: 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Sunday, August 23rd: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Once a delivered parcel is received and processed, an email notification will be sent to the student's JHU email account and the package will be safely stored in the mail room. Following move in weekend, the package/s will be made available during regular package pick up hours.

Street Parking

Street parking in Charles Village is extremely limited around the Hopkins campus, and most of it is metered or limited hour-only parking. There are heavy ticket and towing penalties. As such, students are strongly discouraged from bringing cars to campus because living in the residence halls does not qualify the students for either a city or acampus parking permit. For more information about parking on campus, please call the parking office at 410-516-7275.

Off-Campus Housing

If your son or daughter has completed his or her two year residency requirement and is interested in off-campus housing, the Housing Office offers a listing service for apartments in the area. The student should contact the Off Campus Housing Office in Wolman 102, 410.516.7961. They may also visit our off-campus website at www.jhu.edu/hds/offcampus.
