  • The lab took part in the Department of Cell Biology's annual Holiday Party. Karaoke was a highlight of the event. [Photos].

  • The lab had lunch at 16 On The Green to welcome two new lab members: Eduardo Gonzalez, a rotation student, and Nhung Nguyen, a postdoc. [Photos].

  • The annual BCMB Retreat was held November 6-7 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa, and Marina. Willow, Cristian, and Jose all gave talks. [Photos].

  • Cristian competed as part of the JHU graduate student softball team in the Baltimore co-ed softball league. Although they lost in the semi-final game 10-9, Cristian hit a home run during the game. [Photos].

  • Willlow and Saki celebrated their Graduate Coating Ceremony, which "honors Ph.D. candidates who have passed their qualifying exams, transitioning from a Ph.D. student to a Ph.D. candidate." [Photos].

The Inoue lab also welcomes Jose as a new member.

    Shiva received the Cell Biology Lewis Travel Award for her talk at the 2015 ASCB conference in San Diego. Congratulations!

  • Illustration of one of our lab research projects in collaboration with Kai-ou Tang, a student of Dr. Sandra Gabelli in the 'Business Practices in Molecular Arts' course: this graphic work is based on the recent publication, “Compartmentalized AMPK Signaling Illuminated by Genetically Encoded Molecular Sensors and Actuators” (Miyamoto, 2015). Here, the compartmentalization of AMPK Signaling is personified by transforming robots, whose form and function depend on the cell organelle at which they reside. The illustrator, Kai-ou Tang, is a graduate student in the Johns Hopkins Department of Arts as Applied to Medicine.

  • Inoue lab got together at RedZone for the bi-annual idea contest party and to celebrate Elmer's birthday who just joined our lab as a BME M.S. student. Welcome Elmer [Photos]!

  • Siew Cheng's review paper titled 'An intelligent nano-antenna: Primary cilium harnesses TRP channels to decode polymodal stimuli' was accepted for publication in Cell Calcium.

    Kester Coutinho, a 2nd year BCMB PhD student, joined our lab. Welcome Kester!

    Fumi and Elmer's research performed in collaboration with Drs. Tasuku Ueno, Hiroshi Tokumitsu, and Jin Zhang's labs titled "Compartmentalized AMPK Signaling Illuminated by Genetically Encoded Molecular Sensors and Actuators" was accepted for publication in Cell Reports.

    Shiva received the NSF-JSPS summer research fellowship.

  • Ben's paper titled "Interplay between chemotaxis and contact inhibition of locomotion determines exploratory cell migration" has been accepted for publication in Nature Communications [PDF].

  • Peter Kalugin, a senior undergraduate student in the Inoue lab, has been selected as one of the 32 American college students to receive the highly prestigious Rhodes Scholarship this year.   • Takanari is selected as the principal investigator of National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Silvio O. Conte Digestive Disease Research Core Center Pilot Project. Congratulations!

    Takanari is one of the four organizers (Jin-Der Wen, Robert Campbell, and Chiafu Chou) of the 2015 Biophysical Society Thematic Meeting in Taiwan.
