Amanda Farasat

Amanda Skidmore Farasat is originally from Austin, Texas.  After graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy, she completed a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters at Northwestern University, both in horn performance.  She has performed at international festivals in Japan, Israel, and Slovenia, and studied at the Universität Mozarteum during a year in Salzburg, Austria.  Before moving to Maryland, she was a freelance musician and private music instructor in Austin.  Her teachers include Bruce Henniss, Jack Covert, Douglas Hill, Radovan Vlatkovic, and Gail Williams.

During her musical training, Amanda developed an immense interest in ergonomics and body usage for musicians.  Eventually, she became nationally certified as both a massage therapist and an Aston-Patterning(R) practitioner.  She has taught master classes on body usage, ergonomics, and self-care for musicians at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland-College Park, and a meeting of the International Horn Society.  Amanda currently maintains a private bodywork practice in Pikesville.
