Daniel McKelway, clarinet

As winner of the 1984 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, 21-year-old clarinetist Daniel McKelway made his Washington, D.C. debut at the Kennedy Center and performed in the Young Artists Series at the 92nd Street Y in New York. Awards such as these are not new to this young artist. Mr. McKelway also won the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition, was awarded third prize in the Naumberg Clarinet Competition, and received the top award in the 1983 Arts Recognition and Talent Search
Mr. McKelway's concert engagements through Young Concert Artists have included solo appearances with orchestras and solo recitals across the United States. He has also performed in the Bahamas and the Dubrovnik Festival in Yugoslavia. Mr. McKelway has been a participant at the Tanglewood and Marlboro music festivals, and will perform on a Music From Marlboro tour in 1988.
Daniel McKelway received his musical training with Robert Listokin at the North Carolina School of the Arts and with Harold Wright at the New England Conservatory. He recently joined the faculty of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This concert is Mr. McKelway's Baltimore debut.
