Lanscapes vast and deep

Jonathan Blair ("Looking for Amelia"), a longtime contract photographer for National Geographic magazine, first fell in love with nature's landscapes on a trip to the American Southwest during his college years. In the 40 years since, his photographic adventures have taken him across the globe -- from Asia Minor to the Sahara Desert -- and his photos have appeared with dozens of National Geographic articles, including an October 1999 story about the "last dive" of the Japanese sub I-52. Blair joined Nauticos as media director in December 2001. His first big projects was the company's search for Amelia Earhart's plane. --JCS

Field work, Hopkins Magazine style

"Each topic I write about is like entering a new world," says cognitive science major Jocelyn Kelly '02, this spring's Corbin Gwaltney '49 fellow at the magazine. Kelly, who will spend the summer in Mexico writing for an English language publication, enjoyed getting the full range of magazine experience: tagging along on interviews, hanging out at photo shoots, and researching topics ranging from AIDS to the university's interfaith community. --SD
