A Daughter's Declaration
By Melissa Hendricks
This site contains an exhaustive listing of links to online
information on the Jefferson-Hemings story. This site will lead
you to the original Nature report that describes the DNA
testing of Jefferson and Hemings descendants, plus the letters
that study generated. Also contains links to newspaper and
magazine stories about the case.
This is the site of the Getting Word project. Historians at the
Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation are gathering oral histories
of Monticello's African American descendants. Here you'll see
photos of African Americans who were born at Monticello and of
descendants of Monticello slaves. The site also provides
information on daily life at Monticello.
Herbert Barger is an amateur historian who began collecting
information on Thomas Jefferson several years ago after
discovering that his wife is a descendant of Jefferson's uncle,
Field Jefferson. In his Web page, Barger argues forcefully
against the alleged Jefferson-Hemings intimacy.
