The six founding members selected the golden key as the badge of Kappa Kappa Gamma. The badge is strictly worn as an emblem of membership and is worn only by initiated members.
The colors of Kappa Kappa Gamma are the light and dark blue, which have been described as those shade which in light and dark tones reproduce the "soft velvety blue approaching the cornflower in shade."
The sapphire is the jewel of Kappa Kappa Gamma. The sapphire is recognized as a symbol of truth, sincerity, and constancy.
The Fraternity Coat of Arms combines the well-known symbols of Kappa Kappa Gamma: the key, the Greek letters, the new member pin, the fleur-de-lis, the owl, and the two blues. It also displays the head of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom.
The fleur-de-lis was chosen as the flower of the Fraternity because of its dignity, stateliness, and grace. Because the fleur-de-lis is a mythical flower, the iris is often used in its place in Fraternity affairs because it bears the two blues of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
The owl is the bird of wisdom as well as the bird of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom. The owl was first used as a Kappa symbol in 1881.
