The Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events presents the Lyric Consort at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, in Shriver Hall, located on the university's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street in Baltimore.
The Lyric Consort is a critically acclaimed eight-member vocal ensemble whose repertoire explores the a capella tradition in medieval and Renaissance Europe and in contemporary art music, jazz, spirituals, and folk songs, secular and sacred, serious and humorous. Formed in 1993, the Lyric Consort maintains an annual concert series and was selected for a two-year artist residency at Pennsylvania State University. In August 2000, it was the featured ensemble at the American Choral Directors' Conference.
In addition to performing, the Lyric Consort records for radio broadcast on the Music from St. Stephen's and Concert Hall programs of northeastern Pennsylvania public radio. In 1999, the ensemble released a compact disk Christmas from St. Stephen's. The group has been recognized by grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and several foundations and by its inclusion on the artist roster for the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation's Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour.
