Spaghetti Bridge Contest Set for Nov. 11
Students Will Put Pasta Spans to the Test
on Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus
WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001 - Bridges go on display at 1:30 p.m.; Weight competition begins at 3 p.m.
WHERE: The Glass Pavilion in Levering Hall, The Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md.
WHAT: Johns Hopkins students, working in teams of two or three, will design and construct 18 model bridges, using only spaghetti and glue. At Sunday's event, the bridges will be tested to see which can hold the most weight before it collapses.
WHY: Freshmen enrolled in an introductory course called What is Engineering learn important engineering concepts while designing and building a sturdy pasta structure.
NOTE: Spectators are welcome. Admission is free.
