Lockheed Martin to Sponsor Johns Hopkins University's
Annual Engineering Fair

Employers, Educators Will Meet With High School Students
at Rockville Campus

Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering has announced that Lockheed Martin Corp. will sponsor its annual HeadsUP "What Is Engineering?" Fair on Feb. 6. The fair is one of the only local venues at which high-school juniors and seniors interested in engineering and bioscience can research career opportunities and network with representatives from local engineering, bioscience, and technology firms to learn how integral these disciplines are to our society.

JHU HeadsUP Director Richard Scott applauded the company for making a grassroots commitment to nurturing the area's future workforce. "By joining forces with Johns Hopkins University and HeadsUP to promote this fair, Lockheed Martin is contributing to the education of our youth in a very approachable, hands-on way," Scott said. "What these students take away from this fair will have a direct impact on their academic and career choices."

"We want young students to become excited about the impact engineering has on everyday life," said Don Antonucci, President of Lockheed Martin Transportation & Security Solutions. "We want to spark an interest in science and technology. We look to them as the future of our profession."

Participants in the fair, in addition to HeadsUP and Lockheed Martin, will include a variety of local engineering, technology and bioscience firms. During the fair, students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of each participating company, learn more about what each does, sign up for the HeadsUP seven-week summer engineer program and apply for summer internships.

The "What is Engineering?" Fair will be held at the Johns Hopkins Montgomery County Campus from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 6. For more information on the Fair or HeadsUP, visit the Web site at www.wse.jhu.edu/headsup/ or call 301-294-7170.
